A senior White House official said that President Trump’s administration will not insist on a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine, the longstanding cornerstone of international peace talks, according to the press pool report.

The White House on Thursday warned Israel to stop settlement announcements that could undermine peace with the Palestinians, according to the Jerusalem Post.
The surprising statement comes as President Trump signaled he would depart from former President Obama’s Israel policy and forge a close relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a strong proponent of settlements.
But Trump was reportedly blindsided by Israel’s announcement of 5,500 new housing units to be built in the West Bank, which would have been the first new settlement in around 20 years.

“The American desire for peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians has remained unchanged for 50 years. While we don’t believe the existence of settlements is an impediment to peace, the construction of new settlements or the expansion of existing settlements beyond their current borders may not be helpful in achieving that goal. As the President has expressed many times, he hopes to achieve peace throughout the Middle East region. The Trump administration has not taken an official position on settlement activity and looks forward to continuing discussions, including with Prime Minister Netanyahu when he visits with President Trump later this month.”

TEL AVIV – In a dramatic development following the Paris peace summit on Sunday, the United Kingdom refused to sign a joint declaration calling for a two-state solution, saying the document may “harden” the Palestinian stance on negotiations.
The UK was notably absent from the conference, which convened representatives and foreign ministers from around 70 nations, including Secretary of State John Kerry; it sent only a junior delegation to act solely in an “observer status.” According to the Guardian, this was a deliberate decision in order to “stay close to Donald Trump’s administration.”

То есть Трамп уговорил египтян прекратить это безобразие, те прекратили, но Обама нашел других спонсоров и дал резолюции пройти, как и собирался – несмотря на мощную бипартизанскую поддержку Израиля в Конгрессе. Хоть напоследок смог, гнида, когда уже совсем терять нечего.

Редакционная статья в New York Times про итоги израильских выборов, полная бессильного яду и скрежета зубовного; прямо бальзам на душу. Совершенно не разбираюсь в израильской политике, но если Обама и вот эти ребята из NYT так во что-нибудь вкладываются, то ничем хорошим это быть не может, наверняка жуткая дрянь. Так что молодцы израильтяне, все правильно сделали, а Обаме поделом. Ему теперь предстоит иметь дело с ненавистным Нетанияху до самого конца.
