Invasion

Оказалось, все-таки вторжение. Пока, во всяком случае.

MOSCOW (AP) — The White House on Tuesday began referring to Russian troop deployments in eastern Ukraine as an “invasion” after initially hesitating to use the term — a red line that President Joe Biden has said would result in the U.S. levying severe sanctions against Moscow.

Several European leaders said earlier in the day that Russian troops have moved into rebel-held areas in eastern Ukraine after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recognized their independence — but some indicated it was not yet the long-feared, full-fledged invasion.

Later, the White House signaled a shift in its own position.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, principal deputy national security adviser. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

Вообще должен сказать: такой интенсивный пиздец происходит кругом, даже комментировать не хочется. В диапазоне от хуйла до внезапного фашизма в Канаде, of all places. Позитивных новостей как-то вообще не вижу.

UPD: ответ на вопрос получен, некий анонимный официал из администрации ответил. Поскольку российские войска все это время в Донбассе уже были, это вообще не incursion.

Удар в спину

Оказывается, Украина отказалась сотрудничать с Мюллером и его следователями, чтобы не  испортить отношения с администрацией Трампа и не остаться ненароком без "джавелинов". Вернее, не то чтобы отказалась, но де-факто сотрудничать перестала.

Вокс разочарованно пишет, что "Conveniently for Trump, there’s no indication that US officials directly told  the Ukrainians that shutting down cooperation with Mueller was a condition of getting the anti-tank missiles."

И это в то время как все прогрессивное человечество не может не сочувствовать борьбе резисторов. Обидно должно быть, да.

Lethal

The Trump administration on Wednesday approved the sale of lethal arms to Ukraine’s government as the country battles pro-Russian separatists in its eastern provinces.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that the administration approved the sale of Model M107A1 Sniper Systems and associated equipment to the country at a value of $41.5 million. The administration has not yet moved to approve heavier arms requested by Ukraine’s government, including Javelin anti-tank missiles.

The move from the White House is a departure from the Obama administration, which frequently condemned Russian aggression in the Ukraine but refused to approve the sale of arms to the country’s western-aligned government.

Есть у меня пара знакомых, у которых от этой новости должен бы по идее зайти ум за разум. Но не зайдет, компенсаторные механизмы там будь здоров, справляются и не с такими диссонансами.

Судя по новой раскраске головы Губки Боба, на картинке изображен момент высадки морского десанта на Южный берег Крыма. Интересный, наверно, будет фильм.

Ну да

Обнаружилась, на мой взгляд, одна из самых интересных деталей всей этой украинской эпопеи: российский десантник, потерявший ноги в Донбассе, действовал зимой в Киеве в форме “Беркута”.

Я еще тогда писал у кого-то в комментах, что ничуть не удивлюсь, если обострение майдана окажется затеей Кремля. Этот десантник в беркутовской форме прекрасно укладывается в мое представление об украинских событиях. Конечно, было бы интересно заодно узнать, что за снайперы там стреляли в обе стороны, но там вряд ли удастся что-нибудь найти убедительно-доказательное; десантник-беркутовец, однако, позволяет с некоторой уверенностью предположить, что и снайперы были откуда-нибудь оттуда же.
