В процессе гендерных бесед с gem-in-i возник вопрос, кого угнетают в школах – мальчиков или девочек. Пришлось поднимать статистику, то-се, выяснилось, что девочек в колледжах заметно больше (в среднем соотношение 57:43 по данным еще 2004 года, и вроде бы разрыв продолжает расти), учатся они лучше и степеней получают больше, чем мальчики. Казалось бы, полная победа, а в угнетенном положении теперь мальчики; но нет. Как выяснилось, мальчикам все равно лучше: они пользуются тем, что находятся на кампусах в дефиците, и устанавливают там свои правила сексуального поведения. Статей на эту тему полно, вплоть до NYT. The worst part of this dilemma is that most of these boys used to be humble. Some came from their hometowns ready to work to impress a girl, not just pick one out of the crowd. But any mildly attractive male that comes to UT experiences an immediate swarm of girls working to impress him, not the other way around. The humility turns into cockiness and their egos get a huge boost. Suddenly working for girls is no longer actually work, it’s play.
