Someone else told me that General Petraeus, on the Hill that day, Director Petraeus I should say, said privately to one of the members of Congress said, ‘This is happened in Benghazi.’ He said, ‘Do you want the official line or do you want the real truth?. So I think he knew that he was not telling the full truth. He is, on the other hand, the CIA director. They were involved in some pretty complicated things, perhaps, in Benghazi. To be fair to him, maybe he thought that national security required him not to fully spill the beans and to kind of go along with a line that was otherwise politically convenient for the administration.

On MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” on Monday, Feinstein suggested that Petraeus made an unpublicized visit to Libya after the Sept. 11 attack. The California Democratic senator accused the Obama intelligence community of withholding a report about the trip and threatened a subpoena if the White House continued to resist her committee’s inquiries.

A well-placed Washington source confirms to Fox News that there were Libyan militiamen being held at the CIA annex in Benghazi and that their presence was being looked at as a possible motive for the staged attack on the consulate and annex that night.

According to multiple intelligence sources who have served in Benghazi, there were more than just Libyan militia members who were held and interrogated by CIA contractors at the CIA annex in the days prior to the attack. Other prisoners from additional countries in Africa and the Middle East were brought to this location.

Если это правда, это может объяснять всю дурь с разговорами про протесты из-за видео. Обама – сразу после инаугурации – издал мудацкий высокоморальный указ, запрещающий ЦРУ держать людей под замком и допрашивать их нехорошими методами. Стало быть, или ЦРУ на этот указ забило болт самостоятельно, или Обама им втихаря это разрешил. В любом случае получается очень некрасиво, надо как-то отмазываться, отсюда и сказки про разъяренных кинокритиков. Которые, если все подтвердится, только добавят аромата. Вопрос вот в чем: администрация рассказывала эти сказки, доверяя ЦРУ, или хорошо зная, что произошло на самом деле? Учитывая, что в деле участвовали помимо ЦРУ еще Пентагон с Госдепартаментом, и что Госдепартамент практически сразу начал намекать на свое несогласие с версией про видео, остается предположить, что администрация все прекрасно знала.

Шансы на то, что ливийский “non-scandal” превратится-таки во что-нибудь вроде Уотергейта, ощутимо повышаются.

WASHINGTON — High-level officials at the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Justice Department were notified in the late summer that F.B.I. agents had uncovered what appeared to be an extramarital affair involving the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, David H. Petraeus, government officials said Sunday.
But law enforcement officials did not notify anyone outside the F.B.I. or the Justice Department until last week because the investigation was incomplete and initial concerns about possible security breaches, which would demand more immediate action, did not appear to be justified, the officials said.

It was at that point — sometime in the late summer — that lower-level Justice Department officials notified supervisors that the case had become more complicated, and the Criminal Division’s Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section began working on the investigation as well.

То есть понятно, что к концу лета об этом должны были знать все подряд. Однако никаких телодвижений не произошло; а потом приключилось Бенгази, утечки и заявления из ЦРУ, заголовки типа “Petraeus Throws Obama Under the Bus”, и закономерный результат. Сразу после выборов, но до слушаний в Конгрессе. Ясное дело, теперь нам рассказывают, что это был шок, удар молнии, и никто ничего не знал до последнего.

House majority leader Eric Cantor talked to an FBI official in late October about former CIA Director David Petraeus’ involvement in an affair, a spokesman for the congressman told CNN Sunday.

But NBC News reporter Andrea Mitchell, who broke the story, said on “Meet the Press” that “the White House did not know about this until Wednesday.”

Still, the White House, with concurrence by the FBI and Justice Department, held off on asking for Petraeus’ resignation until after the election. His resignation occurred three days after the election, avoiding the possibility that Obama’s ill-fated appointment of Petraeus could become an issue in the election.

FBI agents on the case were aware that such a decision had been made to hold off on forcing him out until after the election and were outraged.
