После этого Белому Дому пришлось выступить с разъяснениями: вице-президент такого не говорил, что вы, он просто слушал, как всякие демократы из Конгресса так говорят, и благосклонно кивал. А президент вообще считает такие обзывательства неприличными.
One reporter today asked White House press secretary Jay Carney about reports that the Veep had used the term, wondering if “the president thinks that’s appropriate discourse?”
“No, he doesn’t, and neither does the vice president,” Carney said. “And I think the vice president spoke to this and made clear that he didn’t say those words, and I think the congressman in question has said that he regrets using them.”
При этом не следует забывать, что это вторая волна разговоров про взятие Америки в заложники террористами-республиканцами. В первый раз запустил это дело в оборот сам Обама: про взятие заложников он говорил еще прошлой осенью, когда обсуждалась отмена бушевских tax cuts. Те же самые левые тогда эту убедительную метафору тоже повторили столько раз, что даже Джон Стюарт над этим хихикал.
