Красивая история про партию науки, веру в науку и прочие подобные материи: двое социологов, Cesario (Michigan State) и Johnson (Maryland-College Park), опубликовали статью про статистику смертей от рук полицейских, где пришли к такому выводу: "We find no evidence of anti-Black or anti-Hispanic disparities across shootings, and White officers are not more likely to shoot minority civilians than non-White officers." То есть расизма там не нашлось.

Эту статью повадились злонамеренно цитировать всякие консерваторы, в частности, Heather MacDonald. В свете нынешних событий это опасно, вся карьера может пойти коту под хвост. Товарищи ученые нашли выход: они отзывают статью.

 
We were careless when describing the inferences that could be made from our data. This led to the misuse of our article to support the position that the probability of being shot by police did not differ between Black and White Americans (MacDonald, 2019). To be clear, our work does not speak to this issue and should not be used to support such statements.

То, что они тут пишут, не соответствует действительности. МакДональд ни в одной из своих статей, на которые они ссылаются, не утверждает, что "the probability of being shot by police did not differ between Black and White Americans". Их выводы она излагает вполне корректно:
 

The study, by faculty at Michigan State University and the University of Maryland at College Park, found that it is the rate of violent crime that determines fatal police shootings. The more frequently officers encounter violent suspects from any given racial group, the greater the chance that members of that group will be fatally shot by a police officer. In fact, black civilians are shot less, compared with whites, than their rates of violent crime would predict. There was no evidence that officer race (i.e., whiteness) predicted the race of the shooting victim or that there was anti-black bias in fatal police shootings.
Предлога лучше они придумать не смогли, увы. Они отзывают свое вполне легитимное исследование не потому, что допустили ошибку, не потому, что наврали там и были пойманы. Они его отзывают, потому что оно не соответствует линии партии и льет воду на мельницу, ага. Сами, превентивно, не дожидаясь, пока за ними придут из Твиттера.

Таково нынче положение дел в правильной науке.
