Ангерона написала третий пост про расистские тесты. Теперь, насколько я понял, для нее это уже не гипотеза. "Суть моей записи в том, что в ста процентах случаев вопросы, на которые лучше ответили афроамериканцы, чем белые, выбрасываются и не вставляются в настоящий тест."  Это утверждение – ее впечатление от статей какого-то Рознера, который давно двигает эту идею, потому что занимается поддержкой affirmative action. Сам Рознер этот ужас вроде фактом не называет, а называет как раз "my considered hypothesis".  Дело, кстати, не новое, конкретно эта цитата из статьи 2003 года в The Nation. Похоже, доказательств этой гипотезы он с тех пор так и не нашел. Потому, что если бы такие доказательства нашлись, это мгновенно привело бы к чудовищным массовым искам за дискриминацию, и составители тестов вместе с университетами платили бы и каялись без перерыва ближайшие лет сто.

Пост Ангероны соседствует у меня в ленте с текстом про то, что регенты UC во главе с Дженет Наполетано, которая там президентом, единогласно решили отказаться от SAT. Потому что он расистский, ясное дело. Доказательств у них тоже нет, но и сомнений никаких нет, как у Ангероны.

Race-conscious admissions

Harvard University does not discriminate against Asian American students through its use of race-conscious admissions, a federal judge ruled in a decision released on Tuesday. Writing that the university’s system "passes constitutional muster," Allison D. Burroughs, a U.S. district judge, added that the court "will not dismantle a very fine admissions program … solely because it could do better."

Not in my backyard

The College Board has walked back plans to add an “adversity score” for students taking the SAT college admissions test, an idea of creating a score using a combination of factors including their socioeconomic background.
 
Вопль, который издали многочисленные киреевы, достиг цели и возымел эффект. Идея Аdversity Score похоронена, а вместо этого самого score в комплект к SAT пойдет инструмент под кодовым названием "Landscape", который дает колледжам не один универсальный параметр для облегчения колледжам задачи по отбору социально близких абитуриентов, а досье на каждого абитуриента – не слишком ли много у абитуриента разных привилегий. То есть чтобы колледжи могли по-прежнему заниматься тем же самым, но, по-прежнему же, гораздо менее очевидными и проверяемыми способами, чем просто прибавка к результату SAT.

Статус кво восстановлен, одним словом: колледжи могут в случае надобности спокойно принять уважаемого человека невзирая на неправильное социальное происхождение и прочие недостатки, а неуважаемого – не принять, тоже ни на что не взирая. А College Board тут будет вовсе и ни при чем. Всех перемен – у колледжей теперь будет немножко больше информации для этих дел, а то они жаловались, что в четверти случаев им не хватает сведений про социальный бэкграунд абитуриентов.

Поступь прогресса

The class will be co-taught by Screen Studies Professor Caveh Zahedi and Yes Men co-founder Jacques Servin. It will do two things: on the one hand, it will serve as a laboratory of ideas on how best to transform our country from the plutocracy it has become into a true democracy using the creative skills we happen to have on hand as artists, filmmakers, etc.; and on the other hand, it will be a class on producing and using media (in this case, a show about the class) in order to help disseminate mobilizing ideas—in this case, not only the specific change-oriented creative ideas that arise, but the more powerful mobilizing idea that anyone can use whatever skills happen to be on hand to resist tyranny and effect positive change.

Интересно, считал ли кто, каково соотношение дипломов, полученных в такого рода заведениях, с дипломами, полученными в настоящих школах по настоящим предметам. Подозреваю, недалек тот день, когда выяснится, что корреляция между наличием диплома о высшем образовании и уровнем IQ (на которую так любил ссылаться Киреев, доказывая, что за демократов голосуют более умные люди) поменяла знак.

A Marxist Education: Learning to Change the World will be published on June 5 by Haymarket Books, and is authored by Wayne Au, a long-time social justice educator who teaches classes in the UW-Bothell School of Educational Studies.

The forthcoming book—a preview of which was reviewed by Campus Reform—frames the adoption of Marxist and socialist values as a much-needed strategy for educators to help students resist capitalism, white men, the U.S. President, and much more.

The book’s penultimate chapter—“Curriculum to Change the World: Developing a Marxist-Feminist Standpoint in the Politics of Knowledge”—elucidates strategies that educators can adopt to teach in the Marxist tradition. One of these strategies is the adoption of “Marxist-feminist standpoint theory,” writes Au.

Исторический подъем борьбы за конфискацию оружия внезапно превратился в битву активист-вундеркинда Хогга с Fox News и Лорой Ингрэм, каковая битва к оружию отношения не имеет, зато имеет отношение к тому, что вундеркинда не приняли в пару-тройку университетов, калифорнийских причем.

Я, честно сказать, в полном недоумении – как это его не приняли? Да за него вся Ivy League должна друг другу горло перегрызть, когда еще такой образцово-показательный комсорг на горизонте появится. Удивительно.

The University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point has proposed dropping 13 majors in the humanities and social sciences — including English, philosophy, history, sociology and Spanish — while adding programs with “clear career pathways” as a way to address declining enrollment and a multimillion-dollar deficit.
Здравый смысл в университете, поразительно по нынешним временам. Интересно, нет ли тут какой причинно-следственной связи с тем геноцидом, который тамошний губернатор Уокер устроил пару лет назад университетской публике.

Two education professors recently argued that aspiring K-12 teachers who hold conservative views and resist social justice theories may not be qualified to work with children.

Erin Miller and Tehia Stark-Glass, both professors at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, advanced the case in a March 8 article in the journal The New Educator entitled “The Maintenance of Whiteness in Urban Education,” expressing concerns that white conservative teachers will be unable to effectively teach minorities if they do not thoroughly internalize social justice.

The professors assert that some white students in their elementary education diversity classes have “impervious dispositions that would likely not qualify them to work with diverse children,” as evidenced by the fact that those who struggled most with the course content tended to “think they were being indoctrinated into Anti-American values.”

Высшее образование

A University of Illinois graduate instructor was arrested for assaulting two students during an anti-Trump protest Thursday, stealing the phone of one student and throwing it on the sidewalk.

Tariq Khan is a PhD candidate at the university and has taught courses such as “Constructing Race in America” and “U.S. Gender History since 1877.” He is also involved with various anarchist and communist organizations including Black Rose Anarchist Federation and Antifa, in addition to working with the undergraduate socialist students.

Черт-те что происходит в этих университетах.

С другой стороны, у меня прямо там прямо сейчас учится сын, и про всю эту херню он даже и не знает. Но он в инженерной школе, они там учатся по-настоящему.
