Со стороны правых – понятно. Достаточно посмотреть ответ Райана, хотя хватает и более подробных разборов.
Yuval Levine, NRO: “President Obama’s speech really brought home how confused and disoriented liberalism is today, and how very difficult it will be for the Left to accept that the social-democratic welfare state is collapsing and something else must take its place.”
WSJ: “The speech he chose to deliver was dishonest even by modern political standards.”
Charles Krauthammer: “I thought it was a disgrace. I rarely heard a speech by a president so shallow, so hyper-partisan and so intellectually dishonest, outside the last couple of weeks of a presidential election where you are allowed to call your opponent anything short of a traitor.”
Со стороны левых – тоже понятно. Тем, что он ни скажет, все божья роса. Оргазм во многих случаях наступает от самого факта выступления.
Joan Walsh, Salon: “The president laid out a vision of optimism and equal opportunity that made Paul Ryan and the GOP look small”
Hendrik Hertzberg, The New Yorker: “By the time the President got to his own four-step proposal, which calls for higher taxes on the rich (euphemized as lowering “spending through the tax code”) the Republican alternative was a smoking ruin.”
Ну и конечно, Кругман в NYT содрогается в экстазе, прямо смотреть неловко.
Некоторым левым, правда, немного мешает тот прискорбный факт, что президент ограничивается произнесением таких замечательных речей, на деле же не в состоянии даже чижика съесть.
E.J.Dionne, WP: “But a good speech is only a first step. For his allies, the president’s negotiating method has been, well, petrifying: concede, concede and concede again — and then compromise from an already heavily compromised position.”
Этот же интеллектуал дальше объясняет, что дефицит – вообще не проблема. Надо полагать, из-за того, что он такой большой. Потому что при Буше, когда дефицит был значительно меньше, важнее проблемы для левых не было. Но налоги все равно надо повысить, конечно.
Еще претензия к президенту слева – почему он говорит о повышении налогов только на богатых? Хорошо, но мало.
Nicholas Kristof, NYT: “Kudos to Mr. Obama for boldly stating that truth in his speech — even if he did focus only on taxes for the very wealthiest.”
В качестве эпилога – пример реакции людей поближе к центру, хотя тоже слева.
Laurence J. Kotlikoff, CNN: “In his speech on our nation’s long-term budget crisis Wednesday, President Barack Obama identified the problem, but he failed to provide concrete solutions.”
Проблему, правда, и без него идентифицировали, а ждали от него как раз конкретных предложений. А вот тут и добавить нечего:
Clive Crook, The Atlantic: “The speech was more notable for its militant–though ineffectual–hostility to Republican proposals than for any fresh thinking of its own. It was a waste of breath.”
Одним словом, опять Обама как в лужу выступил. Великий оратор, ничего не поделаешь.
