Jewish donors and fund-raisers are warning the Obama re-election campaign that the president is at risk of losing financial support because of concerns about his handling of Israel.
The complaints began early in President Barack Obama’s term, centered on a perception that Mr. Obama has been too tough on Israel.
Это, заметим, до вчерашнего заявления происходило. Там речь в основном о давлении на Израиль по поводу поселений. В конце статьи – данные полла: 46% американских евреев за Обаму голосовать не собираются. В 2008 за Обаму, напомню, проголосовало 78% евреев. В свете вчерашнего, надо полагать, эти данные будут меняться дальше.

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney slammed President Obama’s speech Thursday, saying he “threw Israel under the bus.”
Mr. Romney, a potential Republican presidential candidate, criticized the president’s speech Thursday after Mr. Obama endorsed the 1967 border agreement.
“It is disrespectful of Israel for America to dictate negotiating terms to our ally,” Mr. Romney said in an interview with The Associated Press. “It is not appropriate for the president to dictate the terms.”

Former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty said Thursday that President Obama’s foreign policy speech represented a “disaster waiting to happen.”
“President Obama’s insistence on a return to the 1967 borders is a mistaken and very dangerous demand,” Mr. Pawlenty, a potential Republican presidential candidate, said in a statement.
Республиканцы, как видим, вполне готовы эту карту разыгрывать. Обама с самого начала вел кампанию под девизом “Я – не Буш”. Лозунг “Я – не Обама” для республиканских кандидатов обещает быть весьма продуктивным.
В общем, не надо так уж недооценивать ни евреев, ни республиканцев. Не слепые.
Хотя можно было бы, честно говоря, и быстрее соображать.
