Поскольку гитлер-гитлер-гитлер явно больше не работает (все кто могли, давно поверили, остальных раздражает не Трамп, а пропагандисты с этим заклинанием), нужны новые образы. С которыми напряг, потому что куда дальше-то. Но творческая мысль на месте не стоит, и уже видны контуры новой плодотворной идеи: Трамп – сумасшедший. Mentally ill. В качестве психиатров выступают люди, заслуживающие всяческого доверия: сенатор Франкен, бывший комик, Билл Мар, комик действующий, Эндрю Салливан, прославившийся гипотезой о том, что сын Сары Палин на самом деле ее внук, и другие не менее компетентные товарищи. Демократы в Конгрессе затевают специальный законопроект на предмет приставить к президенту наблюдающего психиатра, не Мара, а настоящего. Работа кипит, одним словом. Любопытно, как будет выглядеть следующий уровень, когда этот подход тоже протухнет. Не удивлюсь, если Демократическая партия официально займется резистансом вторжению с планеты Нибиру.

A key finding of the poll shows that voters find the Trump administration to be more truthful than the news media. The Trump administration is considered truthful by 49% of voters, to 48% of voters who consider it untruthful. Meanwhile, the news media is considered untruthful by a 53%-majority of registered voters, to only 39% who find them truthful (a 14-point gap). Numerous members of the Trump administration – including Trump himself – have been criticized frequently for making false statements. The partisan split on this topic is clear – 89% of Republicans find the Trump administration truthful, versus 77% of Democrats who find the administration untruthful. Conversely, 69% of Democrats find the news media truthful, while a whopping 91% of Republicans consider them untruthful. Independents consider both untruthful – the Trump administration by a margin of 42%/52% and the news media by a margin of 45%/47%.

Везде про то, что Трамп вообще-то ничего особенно страшного или беспрецедентного не делает, и даже, кажется, не очень гитлер. Так что как бы может не стоит так уж все время биться головой о стену и заполошно орать; а то у электората может создаться ненужное впечатление, что у Трампа в противниках сплошь ополоумевшие хомячки, слушать которых – зря тратить время.

Порядком удивлюсь, если эти призывы к разуму возымеют эффект.

Ирландский журнал. Why not – это не “почему бы и нет” в данном случае. Они там объясняют, почему не надо этого делать, хотя очень хочется. Потому что, во-первых, Трамп и сам непременно плохо кончит, а во-вторых, покушение может негативно отразиться на деле прогресса: дискредитация и все такое.

Вообще европейская пресса намного круче здешней. Вот Шпигель, например, объясняет, откуда исходит угроза миру:

Судебный триллер

Просьба трамповского DoJ срочно остановить срочную остановку иммиграционного указа вашингтонским судьей была срочно отклонена в апелляционном суде 9th Circuit. Прямо в ночь с субботы на воскресенье. Будут рассматривать это дело подробно и не торопясь, а пока затребовали мнения от генпрокуроров Вашингтона и Миннесоты, которые это дело инициировали.

Надо полагать, в результате подробного рассмотрения администрации тоже ничего не светит, поскольку 9th Circuit, как известно, самый гуманный суд в мире. Оттуда дело поедет дальше; интересно, удастся ли республиканцам вовремя утвердить Горсача.

Подозреваю, что первоисточник в этой постановке слегка переосмыслен в соответствии с инструкциями Министерства Правды требованиями текущего момента. Впрочем, пишут, что книга тоже стала пользоваться большим спросом (потому что Трамп – гитлер). Внезапная популярность Оруэлла среди левых немало развлекает, как и интерпретации NYT; ничего плохого, однако, в том не вижу, пусть просвещаются, книга полезная. Мало ли, вдруг кто из них даже сообразит, о чем там речь.

А вот интересно, кто из левых первым заговорит про то, что погром в Беркли был организован alt-right или лично Трампом? Отмежеваться от этого дела они уже пытаются вовсю. Не все, правда, только те, кто поумнее. Остальные с энтузиазмом поддерживают.

В качестве иллюстрации – картинка из мудацкой статьи в The Economist. Там не про погром, это у них метафора такая.

UPD: первый приз достается Роберту Райшу. На CNN, разумеется. “Again, I saw these people. They all looked almost paramilitary, not from the campus. The White House on Thursday warned Israel to stop settlement announcements that could undermine peace with the Palestinians, according to the Jerusalem Post.

The surprising statement comes as President Trump signaled he would depart from former President Obama’s Israel policy and forge a close relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a strong proponent of settlements.

But Trump was reportedly blindsided by Israel’s announcement of 5,500 new housing units to be built in the West Bank, which would have been the first new settlement in around 20 years.

UPD: Statement by the Press Secretary:

“The American desire for peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians has remained unchanged for 50 years. While we don’t believe the existence of settlements is an impediment to peace, the construction of new settlements or the expansion of existing settlements beyond their current borders may not be helpful in achieving that goal. As the President has expressed many times, he hopes to achieve peace throughout the Middle East region. The Trump administration has not taken an official position on settlement activity and looks forward to continuing discussions, including with Prime Minister Netanyahu when he visits with President Trump later this month.”

И рассуждает о способах это сделать, попутно демонстрируя чрезвычайно креативное отношение к праву, которое она вроде бы преподает.

If impeachment seems like a fine solution to you, the good news is that Congress doesn’t need evidence of actual treason or murder to move forward with an impeachment: Practically anything can be considered a “high crime or misdemeanor.” (Remember, former President Bill Clinton was impeached for lying about his affair with Monica Lewinsky).

Очень далеко не все “can be considered a ‘high crime or misdemeanor.’”, и Клинтона импичнули не просто за вранье, а за вранье под присягой, то есть perjury, которое вполне себе преступление. И то Сенат это дело похоронил. Интересно, кстати, что будет, если Палата импичнет президента по этому рецепту, то есть безо всяких на то оснований, просто потому, что он им не нравится.

Последний вариант, над которым предлагает подумать эта юристка – военный переворот. Представители наиболее интеллектуальных кругов, однако, давно над этим думают.

С полным одобрением Washington Post рассказывает нам про крепнущий Резистанс в рядах правительственных бюрократов.

But there’s another level of resistance to the new president that is less visible and potentially more troublesome to the administration: a growing wave of opposition from the federal workers charged with implementing any new president’s agenda.

Less than two weeks into Trump’s administration, federal workers are in regular consultation with recently departed Obama-era political appointees about what they can do to push back against the new president’s initiatives. Some federal employees have set up social media accounts to anonymously leak word of changes that Trump appointees are trying to make.

А интересно, можно ли что-нибудь сделать с этим говном. Которое, кстати, перед выборами обещало массово поувольняться в случае победы Трампа; однако ж не поувольнялось, а вот совещается с прежним начальством, как бы Трампу нагадить половчее. Законы о гражданской службе не позволяют бюрократов увольнять с той же легкостью, что в частном секторе; ходят слухи, что республиканцы намерены эти законы слегка подкорректировать. Эффекта, подозреваю, будет немного, даже если они и впрямь до этого доберутся. Еще было интересное предложение – децентрализировать правительство, разогнать департаменты и агентства из Вашингтона по разным городам, желательно помельче, чтобы поближе к народу; тоже из разряда утопических. Самый надежный способ – сокращать финансирование, и этим Конгресс, вроде, вплотную озаботился. Удачи им в этом нелегком начинании.

The blasé manner in which the media describes opposition to Trump from within the bureaucracy is stunning. “Federal workers turn to encryption to thwart Trump,” read one Politico headline. “An anti-Trump resistance movement is growing within the U.S. government,” says Vanity Fair. “Federal workers are in regular consultation with recently departed Obama-era political appointees about what they can do to push back against the new president’s initiatives,” reports the Washington Post. No one who professes support for democracy and the rule of law can read these words without feeling alarmed. The civil service exists to support the chief executive—not the other way around. And yet, when White House press secretary Sean Spicer said that career officials who disagree with White House policy are free to resign, the collective response in Washington was outrage—at Spicer!

То есть бюрократы саботируют законно избранное политическое руководство, политику которого обязаны проводить в жизнь. Потому что эта политика им не нравится, а на то, что президент законно избран, им плевать. А пресса этому рукоплещет в полном восторге. И все это под крики о том, что Трамп – угроза демократии.
