Не надо было, похоже, бросать Петреуса под каток. CNN сообщает, что Петреус намерен, во-первых, рассказать Конгрессу, что он на самом деле сразу знал, что это террористическая атака. Just a few minutes ago on CNN, Pentagon correspondent Barbara Starr reported that a high-placed source informed her that former CIA Chief David Petraeus will use his upcoming testimony to amend his previous testimony. According to this source, Petraeus will tell the closed door congressional hearing that he knew “almost immediately” that the September 11 anniversary attack on our Libyan consulate was a terrorist attack committed by the al-Qaeda-linked militia Ansar Al Sharia. […] Petraeus also told this source he believed the CIA talking points given to Susan Rice came from within the White House or Administration.

На слушаниях по Бенгази конгрессмены сильно друг на друга сердились. Речь шла о Райс; республиканцы спрашивали, зачем надо было врать, демократы отвечали в том духе, что сами дураки, у вас вон тоже Колин Пауэлл врал в свое время, потому что ему разведка такие сведения дала. Кроме того, по мнению демократов, во всем виноваты как раз республиканцы, которые урезали ассигнования на безопасность дипломатических миссий; каким образом это объясняет очевидное вранье администрации, не уточнялось. Выражения никто не выбирал – республиканцы впрямую говорят о наглом вранье, демократы открыто объясняют, что выборы они выиграли, народ сказал свое веское слово, поэтому любые попытки обвинять президента или его администрацию будут ими жестоко пресекаться. Похвальная откровенность.
He added, “The election is over. The president won reelection. The voices of the public were heard. They want us to cooperate. If you want an honest investigation of this tragedy, we will join you. But if you want to persist in trying to put this, lay this somehow at the doorstep of the president or the secretary of State or the United Nations ambassador, you will find us ready and willing to resist to the teeth.“

Помощь они не запрашивали, что косвенно подтверждает сведения об отдаче приказа “stand down”, а потом, по всей вероятности, пытались обмануть начальство: CBS утверждает, что в их материалах для Райс и впрямь не было ни слова о терроризме. Петреус в Конгрессе тоже подтверждал версию о протестах и видео, хотя, по некоторым свидетельствам, сам в это не верил.
Обама в этом деле выглядит совершеннейшим клоуном, если вспомнить его героический момент на вторых дебатах, где он срезал Ромни, сказав, что с самого начала называл атаку терактом, но в его сторону пока никто старательно не смотрит.

After weeks of wrangling over the issue, the European Commission approved a draft law that would create a gender quota for non-executive directors of stock-listed companies across the European Union. If approved, the new regulations would stipulate that women occupy 40 percent of the seats on the non-executive boards of Europe’s roughly 5,000 publicly traded companies by 2020. In instances where candidates’ professional qualifications were the same, women would also be given preference, should they be under-represented in that company. Companies that do not adhere to the rules could be sanctioned.
