A U.S. Secret Service agent assigned to President Obama’s security detail was arrested Aug. 13 in Decorah, Iowa, for driving under the influence, sources tell ABC News.
Daniel L. Valencia, 40, was pulled over by a Decorah city police officer and later arrested after it appeared he had been drinking, said Chief Bill Nixon. No accident occurred; no one was injured.

I was inclined to give some credence to the critics, and to see Perry as a guy who had fluked his way into the governor’s mansion and stayed there.
I soon came to see that I was wrong. And I think a lot of people, even in Texas and certainly around the country, continue to be wrong about Perry in just the same way. The governor himself is largely responsible for that; he hasn’t needed a majority of Texans to like him to get re-elected, and in a way, it suits his purposes when people discount him. But having watched Perry closely for four and a half years now, and interviewed him on several occasions, I am convinced that he’s actually quite smart about politics and that he’s not much of a far-right ideologue.
Bottomline: он далеко не идиот, он весьма искушенный политик, он совсем не правый экстремист, будете его недооценивать – пеняйте на себя.

President Obama to Give Major Economy Speech After Labor Day

The president will continue to push ideas he’s been laying out for days and weeks: a payroll tax cut, an infrastructure bank, patent reform, the passage of three trade deals, tax credits to encourage the hiring of veterans.
The speech will also include ways to reduce the deficit and to pay for the new programs, officials said.

Rasmussen: Perry 29%, Romney 18%, Bachmann 13%
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary voters, taken Monday night, finds Perry with 29% support. Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who ran unsuccessfully for the GOP presidential nomination in 2008, earns 18% of the vote, while Bachmann, the Minnesota congresswoman who won the high-profile Ames Straw Poll in Iowa on Saturday, picks up 13%.
Texas Congressman Ron Paul, who was a close second to Bachmann on Saturday, has the support of nine percent (9%) of Likely Primary Voters, followed by Georgia businessman Herman Cain at six percent (6%) and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich with five percent (5%). Rick Santorum, former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, and ex-Utah Governor Jon Huntsman each get one percent (1%) support, while Michigan Congressman Thaddeus McCotter comes in statistically at zero.
Sixteen percent (16%) of primary voters remain undecided.

Про религиозность и лицемерие: Перри, как известно, заявлял вслух, что хотел бы видеть преподавание Intelligent Design в школах наряду с эволюционной теорией. Практических же шагов для реализации такого желания никаких не предпринял, хотя и мог; вместо этого он выдал университету грант, чтобы привлечь в Техас европейского ученого, чья работа как раз связана с эволюционной теорией.

В налоговых и прочих экономических телодвижениях Перри такого рода примеров – чтобы втирал базе одно, а делал другое, – пока вроде не видно, но могут и найтись.
Еще один интересный момент его губернаторской биографии – история с вакциной HPV: Перри указом ввел обязательное вакцинирование, хотя и с возможностью opt-out. Техасские законодатели при первой же возможности это дело забодали, а Перри признал ошибку. Важный нюанс – вакцину делал только Merck, а у Перри с Merck были разного рода связи вроде пожертвований на кампанию или того, что члены его администрации потом работали на Merck. Это ему тоже будут вспоминать регулярно, надо полагать.

А вот первый наезд на Перри справа, из антиисламской области. Перри, оказывается, знаком с людьми, которые знакомы с мусульманами, которые придерживаются радикальных взглядов на перспективы шариата, так что в президенты его нельзя пускать ни в коем случае.
Это при том, что Перри как раз регулярно поддерживает Израиль – дело весьма характерное для здешних христиан всяких протестантских изводов.
Прямо скажем, даже менее убедительно, чем наезды слева; в комбинации получается интересная картина.
