Ирландский журнал. Why not – это не “почему бы и нет” в данном случае. Они там объясняют, почему не надо этого делать, хотя очень хочется. Потому что, во-первых, Трамп и сам непременно плохо кончит, а во-вторых, покушение может негативно отразиться на деле прогресса: дискредитация и все такое.

Вообще европейская пресса намного круче здешней. Вот Шпигель, например, объясняет, откуда исходит угроза миру:

Был апрельский день весенний, всех других светлей

22 апреля намечается Марш за Науку: (предположительно) ученые будут протестовать против мракобеса Трампа, который с наукой воюет. Науку организаторы видят примерно так:

Не все ученые полны энтузиазма по этому поводу. Некоторые прямо так и пишут: A Scientists’ March on Washington Is a Bad Idea

But trying to recreate the pointedly political Women’s March will serve only to reinforce the narrative from skeptical conservatives that scientists are an interest group and politicize their data, research and findings for their own ends.

Это, заметим, пишет человек, который считает, что науку политизировали климатические скептики. А некоторым отщепенцам просто не нравится, что вместо науки этот марш будет, как и прочие нынешние марши, про всякую левую херню, которая к науке отношения не имеет.

Забавное будет мероприятие. Любопытно, позаботятся ли они о специальных шапочках, чтобы было видно, что это именно ученые маршируют. Или лучше маршировать в белых халатах с микроскопами и разноцветными пробирками?

Как известно, товарищи слева многие годы старательно культивировали миф, что фашизм и нацизм – явления, к самим левым никакого отношения не имеющие, а наоборот, крайне правые. Пишут, что в этой борьбе предпринято решительное наступление: Гугль изменил определение фашизма, тупо вставив туда “right wing”.

Любителям мифов теперь есть на что ссылаться – вот же написано, целый Гугль так решил.

Судебный триллер

Просьба трамповского DoJ срочно остановить срочную остановку иммиграционного указа вашингтонским судьей была срочно отклонена в апелляционном суде 9th Circuit. Прямо в ночь с субботы на воскресенье. Будут рассматривать это дело подробно и не торопясь, а пока затребовали мнения от генпрокуроров Вашингтона и Миннесоты, которые это дело инициировали.

Надо полагать, в результате подробного рассмотрения администрации тоже ничего не светит, поскольку 9th Circuit, как известно, самый гуманный суд в мире. Оттуда дело поедет дальше; интересно, удастся ли республиканцам вовремя утвердить Горсача.

Пишут, что в цитадели борьбы с изменением климата, NOAA, завелся whistleblower. Да как свистнул!

But the whistleblower, Dr John Bates, a top NOAA scientist with an impeccable reputation, has shown The Mail on Sunday irrefutable evidence that the paper was based on misleading, ‘unverified’ data.

It was never subjected to NOAA’s rigorous internal evaluation process – which Dr Bates devised.

His vehement objections to the publication of the faulty data were overridden by his NOAA superiors in what he describes as a ‘blatant attempt to intensify the impact’ of what became known as the Pausebuster paper.

His disclosures are likely to stiffen President Trump’s determination to enact his pledges to reverse his predecessor’s ‘green’ policies, and to withdraw from the Paris deal – so triggering an intense political row.

In an exclusive interview, Dr Bates accused the lead author of the paper, Thomas Karl, who was until last year director of the NOAA section that produces climate data – the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) – of ‘insisting on decisions and scientific choices that maximised warming and minimised documentation… in an effort to discredit the notion of a global warming pause, rushed so that he could time publication to influence national and international deliberations on climate policy’.

Товарищ глубоко прав: fake news в “Правде” New York Times и “Известиях” Washington Post, комсомольцы в Беркли и прочих кампусах, там же и антисемитизм под тем же знакомым соусом ненависти к израильской военщине, травля диссидентов, и даже authoritarian ineptitude налицо, хотя есть надежда, что с этим Трамп справится – если сможет подавить бунт бюрократов, хехехе. Даешь перестройку!

Любимая забава

Восемь лет справа подсчитывали, во сколько обошлись налогоплательщикам очередной гольф Обамы или каникулы его семьи в Испании; слева этими расходами не интересовались совершенно. Сейчас, понятно, мы будем узнавать о расходах на поездки разных Трампов исключительно слева. Там объясняют, что это в порядке кармического воздаяния за подсчеты правыми обаминых трат, но мы-то помним, кто считал расходы при Буше; подозреваю, что и тогда это было уже традиционное развлечение. Прелести двухпартийной системы.

Осторожно, там прямо по ссылке этот самый high art, без подготовки лучше не заглядывать. Еще мне там очень понравился восторг по такому поводу: “she was taking control of her narrative in the way that only Beyoncé can: She made the announcement on her own terms, through her own channels, instead of going through the intermediary of a magazine or news outlet”. Я много раз читал то же самое про Трампа, только писавшие вместо восторга демонстрировали по этому же поводу ненависть – как, мол, он смеет.

Не знаю, что бы я без Вокса делал, радуют буквально каждый день.

‘1984’ to Open on Broadway This Summer

Подозреваю, что первоисточник в этой постановке слегка переосмыслен в соответствии с инструкциями Министерства Правды требованиями текущего момента. Впрочем, пишут, что книга тоже стала пользоваться большим спросом (потому что Трамп – гитлер). Внезапная популярность Оруэлла среди левых немало развлекает, как и интерпретации NYT; ничего плохого, однако, в том не вижу, пусть просвещаются, книга полезная. Мало ли, вдруг кто из них даже сообразит, о чем там речь.

А вот интересно, кто из левых первым заговорит про то, что погром в Беркли был организован alt-right или лично Трампом? Отмежеваться от этого дела они уже пытаются вовсю. Не все, правда, только те, кто поумнее. Остальные с энтузиазмом поддерживают.

В качестве иллюстрации – картинка из мудацкой статьи в The Economist. Там не про погром, это у них метафора такая.

UPD: первый приз достается Роберту Райшу. На CNN, разумеется. “Again, I saw these people. They all looked almost paramilitary, not from the campus. And I’ve heard — again I don’t want to say factually — but heard there’s some relationship there between these people and the right wing. And the movement that is affiliated with Breitbart news.”
